Michigan Makers Holiday Gift Basket

In partnership with Incompass Michigan

A handcrafted holiday gift that gives back: seven Michigan makers, one solid wood crate.

This holiday season, give a gift with a story behind every piece. The Michigan Makers Holiday Gift Basket brings together handcrafted goods from seven Michigan social enterprises and mission-driven makers, from Detroit and Hamtramck to Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor and Marquette. Each purchase supports meaningful work for people with disabilities, immigrant women, women overcoming barriers to employment, and a more sustainable way of making things. It’s a thoughtful gift for family, friends, clients and colleagues.

What’s inside

Leather Card Case by Arbor Trading Post (Ann Arbor) Our best-selling handcrafted Mountain Top card case in two-tone mahogany and olive green, made from premium, full-grain, ethically sourced leather using traditional leathercrafting techniques and a clean, modern design. Like everything we make, it’s built to last, and made to age with character. Slim enough for any pocket, at 4.1″ x 3″ x 0.2″. Arbor Trading Post crafts heirloom-quality leather goods in small batches and is committed to supporting and sharing skills with people facing barriers to employment.

Handcrafted Pouch by D’Artillery (Hamtramck) A high-quality personal pouch (about 9″ x 5″), sewn in small batches. D’Artillery advances economic inclusion for immigrant women through high-quality, small-batch manufacturing and sewing. Styles are assorted, so each pouch is one of a kind.

Soy Candle by EveryBody by Dutton Farm (Pontiac) A 12 oz hand-poured, 100% natural soy wax candle with an eco-friendly cotton wick and about 60 hours of burn time. It burns cleaner than paraffin, with up to 90% less soot, and contains no colors or dyes. Each label is signed by the person who made it. EveryBody makes bath and body products to remove barriers to employment for people with disabilities. Scents are assorted.

Stone Paper Notebook by Lincoln Stone Paper (Farmington Hills) A hardcover A5 journal (5.8″ x 8.3″) with 160 lined pages made from stone paper, a material made from limestone instead of wood pulp. It’s tree-free, waterproof and tear-resistant, with a smooth writing feel. Lincoln Stone Paper is a sustainable stationery brand built on the idea that business can be both profitable and purposeful.

Graffiti Pen by Rebel Nell (Detroit) A classic ballpoint pen with repurposed layers of real Detroit graffiti encased in its clear top, a daily tool turned conversation piece. It arrives in a metal case engraved with the Rebel Nell name. Rebel Nell’s pieces are handcrafted by women overcoming barriers to employment, creating lasting impact while preserving the stories of the places, people, and moments that connect us.

Fire Starters by SparkWorks by MRC Industries (Kalamazoo) Made with natural soy wax and reclaimed wood shavings, these fire starters give a powerful, steady flame without heavy smoke, for fireplaces, fire pits and campfires. They’re handcrafted by people with disabilities gaining meaningful work experience and job skills, in partnership with Kalamazoo Candle Company.

About this collection

Arbor Trading Post is proud to partner with Incompass Michigan to spotlight the social enterprises making a real difference across our state. These social enterprises use business to solve social problems, creating jobs, building skills and strengthening communities. Every item in this crate was made by hand, by people building skills and sharing their craft. When you give this crate, you’re giving a beautiful, useful gift and helping keep that work going.

Incompass Michigan is the statewide network of social enterprises, working toward a Michigan where all people experience optimal independence and a meaningful, engaged life. Its member organizations support thousands of Michigan residents in living, working and taking part in their communities, and this collaboration celebrates the talent behind every handmade piece in this crate. Together, these makers show that sustainable, small-batch manufacturing can be a powerful engine for both environmental stewardship and social growth.

Because every item is handcrafted, colors, patterns, scents and finishes will vary. That’s what makes each crate unique.
